The family of Lawrencia Naa Borley Nelson (Naa Gamu) who met her untimely death through a gunshot at an enstoolment ceremony have cited medical negligence partly, for her demise.
Naa Gamu and her husband were being enstooled as the queen and chief respectively of the Ga-Adangme Moslem Union, the Nungua West branch over the weekend when a musketry fired hit her thigh.
Her brother Rapheal Nii Bortey Agbli, is very certain that his sister would have been alive after the incident if not for medical negligence. He alleged that they were turned away by health officials at the health facilities visited without offering the bleeding Lawrencia first aid or an ambulance.
“We went to the first place. They didn’t even offer first aid. Then they turned us away to go to LEKMA. When we got to LEKMA emergency, they also said we should take her to Ridge Hospital. Imagine the distance, nobody helped us. Not even an ambulance. They said there was none. We got to Ridge; they removed the bullet and dressed her leg only for them to tell us she is dead.
I keep having flashes of her. I haven’t slept since the incident. All the hospitals failed us, and I wish their licenses will be collected or shutdown, what’s their use?” he also lamented.
A distraught husband, a broken family is what can be witnessed among family members of the late Lawrencia Naa Borley Nelson (Naa Gamu) at their residence.

What was supposed to be a happy moment would be the worst day of their lives as a family. Naa Gamu was shot in the thigh moments when she and her husband as well as other executives of the union were ushered in front for the ritual to be performed.
Members of the family, who are seeking justice, pleaded with law enforcement agencies to release her body for her burial in accordance with Islamic tradition.

They suspect foul play. Martison Quaye is her uncle who insists the family must meet the suspect to ask some questions.
“This is very painful. We heard the suspect has been arrested but we as a family haven’t seen him. We need to see him and ask him why he did that. Firstly, in such ceremonies, is it not gun powder that is used? And secondly, is he not supposed to shoot into the sky? Why behind her thigh?” he questioned.
Nungua Zongo is where Naa Gamu resides with her husband and five-year-old child.
Her in-laws are equally stunned by the turn of events. Nene Teye Kwala II is an in-law who spoke on behalf of the husband.
“All of a sudden, she just fell in front of us. Then we realized she had been shot. We don’t even know how it happened. We are not happy, and we want justice. In fact, what you have seen is just the tip of what her husband is going through. The family equally.” He added.
A rather shocked residents have fond memories of her as a gentle and quiet individual. John Kofi, a resident says she was a nice woman who wasn’t troublesome at all.
The Ga-Adangme Moslem Council, organizers of the ceremony least expected this outcome. But will want the body of the deceased released for burial. Abdul Rashid Otubisa, a member of the Council who explained the reason behind the ceremony would want her buried while other processes continue.
The suspect is to appear before court on Wednesday February 26.
