Government Communications Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu says delays in paying the Black Queens’ bonuses are unacceptable and must not happen again.
Speaking to Joy Sports after the women’s national team ended their boycott over unpaid bonuses, the Abura Asebu-Kwamankese MP said the issue required urgent attention from all stakeholders.
“Delays are not desirable, of course, and I think we should take steps going forward to ensure that it does not recur,” he said.
The Black Queens had refused to train for two days following the government’s failure to settle outstanding bonuses from the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Each player is reportedly owed $9,500 for their bronze-winning performance.
Kwakye Ofosu expressed confidence that the government was working swiftly to resolve the matter, adding that the players deserved better treatment given their contribution to Ghana’s football success.
Following meetings with Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku and senior officials, the team returned to training on Monday.
Ghana lead Egypt 3-0 from the first leg and will host the second leg of their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday.
