A 14-year-old student of Kunsu Camp D/A JHS, Miss Rose Korkor, has made the Ahafo Ano South West District proud after placing second in the Otumfuo Community Reading Challenge held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi last Friday.
Miss Rose, who represented the Kunsu Community, competed impressively against other finalists from across the Ashanti Region. She missed the ultimate prize by just three points, earning admiration from judges and the audience for her confidence, eloquence, and reading skills.
In recognition of her outstanding performance, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South West, Alhaji Abubakar Sedik, presented a GH¢5,000 cash reward to Miss Rose for bringing glory to the district.
Alhaji Sedik, who had earlier pledged to support the young girl, praised her for her hard work and dedication. He reaffirmed his commitment to sponsor her education up to the tertiary level, adding that Miss Rose’s achievement would inspire many pupils in the district to take their studies seriously.
He also expressed appreciation to the teachers and community members of Kunsu Camp for nurturing such a talented student. He urged parents to encourage their children to develop an interest in reading.
The Otumfuo Community Reading Challenge, organised under the auspices of His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, seeks to promote reading culture and literacy development among school children across the Ashanti Region.
