Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is experiencing a surge of support nationwide, as the party moves toward its January 31, 2026 presidential primary.

According to his campaign team, the growing endorsements reflect widespread confidence in his candidacy, ranging from grassroots organisers and electoral area coordinators to former MPs, constituency executives and campaign strategists.
At the grassroots level, Dr. Bawumia has received strong backing from electoral area Coordinators across multiple constituencies.
In Prestea Huni Valley, 28 out of 32 coordinators, representing 87.5%, have pledged their support. In New Juaben South, 30 of 34 coordinators, or 88.2% have endorsed him, while Akuapem North saw 29 of 31 coordinators, or 93.5% throw their weight behind his candidacy.
Mfantseman recorded the highest percentage, with 34 out of 36 coordinators, equivalent to 94.4% expressing support.
Coordinators have emphasised unity among polling station executives and described Dr. Bawumia as the candidate best positioned to energise the party base and appeal to the broader electorate.
Former party executives and youth organisers have also rallied to his side. In Mfantseman, 37 out of 47 former constituency executives endorsed him, highlighting that his leadership aligns with the party’s strategic direction.
Similarly, 30 of 47 youth organisers in the Central Region have pledged to champion a vigorous grassroots campaign for his bid, believing his experience, national recognition and political profile make him the party’s most marketable candidate for the 2028 general elections.
Constituency executives have strengthened this wave of support.

In Mpohor, Chairman Razak Dadzie promised to deliver 80% of the constituency’s votes, urging delegates not to overlook the party’s most marketable candidate.
Nkwanta South’s First Vice Chairperson, Pius Amewu, pledged 90% support, emphasising that Dr. Bawumia remains the most capable contender to return the party to power.
In Agona East, parliamentary candidate Hannah Asamoah encouraged delegates to maintain political consistency, likening party loyalty to business longevity, while executives in Akan and Asikuma Odoben Brakwa commended his leadership and endorsed his candidacy.
High-profile defections and individual endorsements have further added momentum to Dr. Bawumia’s campaign.
In Asunafo South, Deputy Constituency Secretary Eric Agyemang, a former key organiser for the Kennedy Agyapong campaign, publicly joined Team Bawumia, withdrawing past criticisms and acknowledging that previous claims against him were false.
Former Kade MP Ofosu Asamoah, previously campaign manager for Kwabena Agyapong also switched allegiance after reassessing party dynamics.
Other notable supporters include Michael Okyere Baafi, MP for New Juaben South, former Akwatia MP Mercy Adu-Gyamfi (AmaSey) and several long-serving party strategists and former constituency executives across multiple regions.
Supporters consistently cite Dr. Bawumia’s winnability, marketability and vision as key reasons for their backing.
Many consider him the NPP’s strongest candidate for the 2028 general elections, pointing out that his national profile has been cultivated since 2008 and that introducing a new face could risk resetting the party’s momentum.
His digitalization agenda, economic proposals and forward-looking outlook resonate widely across party ranks, while his focus on party welfare is seen as a strong unifying factor.
According to his campaign team, these endorsements position Dr. Bawumia as the candidate most capable of unifying the NPP and leading a formidable national campaign toward 2028.
