The Circuit Court 3 in Accra, presided over by Her Honour Susana Eduful, has granted bail to 35-year-old businessman, Daniel Koranteng, who has been charged with conspiracy and robbery in connection with an October 4, 2025 incident at Tse-Addo in the Greater Accra Region.
Daniel Koranteng, together with an accomplice currently at large, are facing two counts – conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery, both contrary to Sections 23(1) and 149 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
According to the prosecution, complainant Portia Amoah, a civil servant and resident of Tse-Addo, was on a morning walk around 6:45 a.m. when she was approached by the accused and his accomplice.
The pair had allegedly rented an army-green Toyota Highlander (registration GE 9134-25), removed its number plates and used it as an unregistered vehicle to carry out robbery spree.
The facts state that the accused, seated in the front passenger seat, pretended to seek directions before pulling out a shotgun and ordering the complainant to unlock her Samsung Fold 4 smartphone, valued at GH¢18,000. Terrified, she complied, after which the suspects sped off.
Ms. Amoah reported the incident to the Teshie Rasta Police Post. Later that same day, Koranteng and his accomplice allegedly robbed another victim at Spintex, using the same method.
However, during an attempted escape, they were pursued to Nungua Cocon Street, where they crashed the Toyota Highlander into a school building.
Koranteng was subsequently arrested by a mob and narrowly escaped lynching, due to the timely intervention of the police.
His accomplice fled with some stolen items and is still being pursued. A video of the arrest went viral, enabling the initial complainant to identify the accused and alerted the police, leading to his transfer from Baatsonaa Police custody for further investigation.
Koranteng first appeared in court on October 21, 2025 where he was remanded on grounds that he might not return to stand trial.
His plea was deferred to October 27.
On December 1, 2025 the case was recalled and Koranteng pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Her Honour Susana Eduful granted him bail of GH¢100,000 with two sureties, both to be justified with title deeds, which are to be deposited at the court registry.
The prosecutor has been directed to file all disclosures and witness statements before the next adjourned date, January 28, 2026.
Meanwhile, the police continue efforts to apprehend the fugitive accomplice and recover the stolen Samsung Fold 4.
