The Circuit Court 11 in Accra, presided over by Her Honour Basilia Adjei-Tawiah has, for the second time, adjourned the case involving the Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, the first accused (A1), who was present in court.
In court on Monday, DSP Emmanuel Nyamekye and ASP Issah Achibiri held brief for the substantive prosecutor, Superintendent Alex Odonkor.
Prosecutors informed the court that Supt. Odonkor had not completed preparing the witness statements and required more time.
“Our brief is that the substantive prosecutor, who is our director, has not completed the preparation of the witness statements and prays to the court for an extension,” prosecutors told the court. They requested one more month to conclude investigations and finalise their filings.
Appearing for the MP, defence Counsel Kwasi Gyamfi Boadu, who noted that some Members of Parliament were in court to support the accused expressed concern over the pace of the prosecution.
He reminded the court that at the previous sitting, prosecutors had indicated that the MP’s police statement had not yet been taken.
Responding to the judge’s question, defence counsel confirmed that the statement was still outstanding.
He, therefore, urged the court to consider discharging the MP if the state fails to show readiness at the next sitting.
“We will like to pray that if by the next court date prosecution is not ready to prosecute, this honourable court, with respect, would discharge A1. We pray accordingly,” counsel submitted.
Her Honour Basilia Adjei-Tawiah directed defence counsel to file the application formally if the circumstances persist at the next sitting.
The case has been adjourned to January 22, 2026.
