A construction worker has reportedly died after an old residential building collapsed at Kasoa New Market in the Central Region on Friday, October 11.
Reports available to The Chronicle has it that , four masons were working on the structure when it suddenly gave way.
The building’s owner had reportedly engaged the workers to reinforce the weak structure and construct a summer hut within the compound.
During the work, the building caved in, trapping one of the masons under the debris. Three others managed to escape with minor injuries.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), supported by other emergency teams, arrived swiftly at the scene and led a rescue operation to retrieve the trapped worker.
Unfortunately, he was later pronounced dead after being pulled from the rubble.
The GNFS has since cordoned off the area to prevent further accidents and to allow for a detailed assessment of the site.
Authorities have appealed to residents to stay away from the scene to enable emergency workers to carry out their duties safely.
An investigation is expected to determine the cause of the collapse and whether the structure had any prior safety warnings.
