The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has organised a preparation course for referees selected to officiate at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The event took place earlier this month in Cairo, Egypt, and brought together referees, assistant referees, VAR officials, and technical and physical instructors under the supervision of the CAF Referees Committee.
The objective of the course was to ensure that match officials are fully prepared ahead of the tournament, scheduled from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026. The programme covered a range of key areas, including physical assessments, video match analysis, and simulation exercises designed to strengthen on-field decision-making, communication and consistent interpretation of the Laws of the Game.
A significant part of the training focused on the use of VAR technology, with participants receiving updated guidance in line with CAF and FIFA protocols. The aim is to ensure a uniform and high-quality application of video assistance throughout the competition.
CAF noted that the session demonstrates the organisation’s ongoing commitment to improving officiating standards across the continent. By focusing on excellence, transparency and credibility in refereeing, officials say they are working to contribute to a successful and fair AFCON 2025 in Morocco.
