Ghana defender Mohammed Salisu insists AS Monaco must improve their performances in the UEFA Champions League after a disappointing 2-2 draw with Pafos in Cyprus.
Salisu ended the game as the Player of the Match despite scoring a late own goal which handed the hosts a point.
Although he admits it was a difficult game, Salisu believes they could have done better with their defending.
“This is a big lesson for us. We need to defend better in such games at difficult venues especially at set-pieces. We knew Pafos were always going to be threat. We also needed to ensure we took our opportunities at the other end," he said.
The former Southampton player has already switched his attention to the next game against Galatasaray with Monaco eyeing a place in the knockout stages.
"We’re still in the competition, but we must go to Galatasaray in the next Champions League game and get the three points," he added.
Meanwhile, the French giants started the game brilliantly with Japanese winger Takumi Minamino opened the scoring after just five minutes.
Pafos responded 13 minutes later after former Chelsea defender David Luis powerfully headed home from a corner kick.
AS Monaco restored their lead eight minutes later through American forward Folarin Balugon, who pounced on a mistake by Pafos' goalkeeper Neofytos Michail.
With two minutes remaining, Ivan Sunjic hit the bar and the ball went in through a deflection from the Ghanaian defender.
