Ghana’s Minister for Sports, Kofi Iddie Adams, has urged fans and stakeholders to view the Black Stars’ disappointing 2025 Kirin Challenge Cup results in context, stressing that head coach Otto Addo used the tour to test new players and experiment with tactical approaches.
The Black Stars lost 2-0 to Japan and 1-0 to South Korea, finishing the Asian friendlies without scoring. Adams noted that Ghana travelled without most of its core players, influencing Addo’s strategy.
"Even though we didn’t have our key players, the coach went there with two objectives: to compete and to assess new faces in a different football environment,” he said.
Despite the defeats, Adams praised the team’s performance against South Korea, noting that around 60â65% of the lineup consisted of new players. He said the games provided the coach with valuable insights into player performance, strengths, and weaknesses.
"These matches give the coach room to try new things, and he now has a clearer understanding of the team," Adams added.
Ghana will now focus on December 5, when the Black Stars will learn their group-stage opponents for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
