The unbeaten runs of both Hearts of Oak and Heart of Lions are set to be tested when the two sides meet on Monday afternoon at the Accra Sports Stadium in a highly anticipated Ghana Premier League clash.
Hearts of Oak have collected eight points from four games this season, while Heart of Lions lead are second on the table with 10 points from the same number of matches. Both teams are eager to maintain their strong starts, but only one will leave the encounter unbeaten. For Lions, the game comes after a goalless draw against Asante Kotoko in Kumasi, marking another high-profile challenge that demands their best performance.
Hearts of Oak will be without goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, who was part of the Ghana squad that secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Sunday. Despite his absence, the team remains confident in their squad depth and are expected to cope well without their first-choice goalkeeper.
Ahead of the fixture, Hearts of Oak coach Didi Dramani spoke to Hearts TV about the challenge posed by the Lions. “It’s going to be a very tough game. Lions are very composed, very consistent, and they have a very experienced coach,” Dramani noted. “They try to express their identity, and they come with the right power. We will try to utilise the spaces created during the game and play expansively.”
The two sides have met four times since November 2023. Hearts of Oak have won twice, Heart of Lions once, and one game ended in a draw. Both teams have scored three goals in these encounters, with Hearts of Oak holding the edge in recent meetings, including a 1-0 league win on January 31, 2025.
This season, Hearts of Oak have won two matches and drawn two, scoring two goals while conceding none. Heart of Lions have won three, drawn one, scored six goals, and conceded just once. Hearts of Oak come off a draw against Bechem United, while Lions also drew their last outing against Kotoko, setting the stage for a tense and competitive encounter.
