FIFA has officially confirmed Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup following the Black Stars’ 1–0 victory over Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The finals, to be staged across the United States, Mexico and Canada, will mark Ghana’s fifth appearance at the global showpiece—and their fifth in the last six editions.
Mohammed Kudus settled Sunday’s decisive qualifier two minutes into the second half.
The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder reacted quickest after Comoros failed to clear Alidu Seidu’s cross, with Thomas Partey steadying the move inside the box before sliding a short pass for Kudus to sweep home from close range.
The result completed a strong campaign for Otto Addo’s side, who finished top of Group I on 23 points—four clear of nearest challengers Madagascar.
It also confirmed Ghana as the fifth African nation to book a ticket to the expanded 2026 tournament, underlining a return to consistency on the road to the finals.
Celebrations spilled across Accra as the players acknowledged the home crowd at full-time.
Messages of congratulations poured in from clubs, national associations and across social media, while world governing body FIFA formally recognised Ghana’s qualification soon after the match.

For the Black Stars, the achievement extends a proud World Cup record that began with a memorable debut in 2006 and continued with appearances in 2010, 2014 and 2022.
Attention now turns to preparation for next year’s finals, with the tournament draw due in December and a programme of warm-up fixtures set to follow.
Ghana’s successful push to North America was built on a solid defence and timely goals throughout the group phase.
Sunday’s narrow win—earned by Kudus, created by Partey and sparked by Seidu’s delivery—was emblematic of that efficiency: decisive in both boxes and composed in the key moments.
