Ghana head coach Otto Addo has offered a positive update on the fitness of his squad ahead of Sunday’s pivotal 2026 World Cup qualifier against Comoros, revealing that the majority of players are in good shape, with only a few under observation ahead of kick-off.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, Addo confirmed that left-back Gideon Mensah and midfielder Elisha Owusu were managing minor fitness concerns but are reportedly improving.
“Elisha had a little bit of a problem, so we will see how it goes today. But the rest are fine,” he said.
“Gideon had some problems with his left shin, but it’s also better, so we will see what we do.”
The coach also touched on the potential of giving Auxerre defender Ebenezer Annan a starting opportunity in place of Mensah, though he was quick to commend the left-back’s recent performances.
“Gideon played very well,” Addo emphasised. “Sometimes people forget the good things he does, like the assist to Jordan. He did a lot of good things.”
While Addo remained tight-lipped on his tactical setup and potential lineup changes, citing the need to avoid giving the opposition an advantage, he noted that preparations since returning home have been smooth.
“Like always, I’ll never speak about how we play or who starts because I don’t want to prepare our opponents,” he stated firmly.
“Everything looks well, and we are happy for that,” he said. “The boys have been working hard, and we are ready for tomorrow.”
With the Black Stars just one win away from securing their ticket to the 2026 World Cup, Addo expressed confidence in his squad’s readiness, focus, and determination to finish the job.
“We’re ready,” he assured. “We want to end this qualification with a win for our fans.”
Ghana will be aiming to make their fifth World Cup appearance, having previously featured in Germany (2006), South Africa (2010), Brazil (2014), and Qatar (2022).
