The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has appointed 17-year-old Adongo Angelous Akurugu from Navrongo Senior High School to officiate the highly anticipated Premier League Matchday 5 encounter between Nations FC and Asante Kotoko at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Abrankese on Saturday, October 11, 2025.
Akurugu, one of the brightest prospects from the “Catch Them Young Refereeing Initiative,” has been steadily building a reputation as a confident and capable match official. His recent performance in the CAF African Schools Football Championship final between Senegal and Tanzania at the University of Ghana Stadium demonstrated his composure, sound judgment, and growing expertise on the international stage.
He will be supported on the lines by Joseph Teye Awasabi and Haruna Yakubu, with Kingsford Oteng Yeboah serving as the fourth official. Tasembedo Ousmane has been named the Match Commissioner, while Christine Enyonam Zigah, Chairperson of the GFA Referees Appointment Committee, will serve as the Referee Assessor for the fixture.
This appointment reflects the GFA’s strong commitment to developing the next generation of referees and creating meaningful opportunities for young officials to gain exposure at the highest levels of domestic football.
The Catch Them Young Refereeing Initiative continues to play a crucial role in identifying, training, and mentoring talented young referees across Ghana, ensuring the long-term sustainability, professionalism and quality of officiating within the nation’s football ecosystem.
