
The Black Stars delivered a commanding performance to defeat the Central African Republic 5â0 in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Stade d’Honneur de Meknès in Morocco on Wednesday.
The emphatic victory places Ghana firmly within reach of their fifth World Cup appearance, reinforcing their resurgence under coach Otto Addo.
A first-half header from Mohammed Salisu set the tone for the afternoon before a dominant second-half display saw Thomas Partey, Alexander Djiku, Jordan Ayew and Kamaldeen Sulemana all find the back of the net to seal a comprehensive win for the four-time African champions.
Ghana started brightly, dictating play with composure and authority from midfield. Their breakthrough came in the 20th minute when defender Mohammed Salisu rose highest to head home from a well-delivered corner by Mohammed Kudus, a goal that rewarded the Black Stars’ early control.
After the interval, Otto Addo’s men shifted gears, producing a relentless attacking display.Thomas Partey doubled Ghana’s lead in the 52nd minute with a powerful strike from inside of the box following a clever exchange with Fatawu Issahaku.
The rout was completed late on by Kamaldeen Sulemana, who scored his debut goal for the Ghanaians with a tap-in.
The Black Stars maintain their three points lead at to the top of Group I with 22 points, three clear of second-placed Madagascar, with Ghana set to face Comoros in the final qualifier in Accra on Sunday.
A victory in that match will officially seal Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
