Attacker Memphis Depay is expected to report to the Netherlands national team camp late for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Depay, who is currently the all-time topscorer for the Dutch national team could not travel to join his teammates on time after missing his passport.
The 31-year-old forward, who was keen to join his teammates for the Malta game attempted to board the plane without his passport, but all efforts proved futile.
However, Netherlands head coach Ronald Koeman has expressed his displeasure about the situation, saying it is unfortunate.
"It's unfortunate, first and foremost for Memphis, but for us as well. Naturally, you want to have the full squad ready for the international break. At the same time, this is an unforeseen circumstance." Koeman said.
Depay has been in the books of Brazil powerhouse, Corinthians since 2024, with his current contract expected to elapse in 2026.
Since making his debut for the Netherlands in 2013, Depay has racked up 104 appearances, scoring 52 goals across the period.
