FIFA President Gianni Infantino has called on African football leaders to maintain a strong sense of unity as a driving force for the continent’s continued progress and success in the global game.
Speaking at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) General Assembly, Infantino emphasised that collaboration among African football associations is vital to ensure that the continent speaks with one powerful voice on the world stage.
“I’m asking all to be united - to continue to unite Africa, to continue to unite African football, because like this you will have a strong voice all over the world for a bright future,” Infantino said.
The FIFA chief reaffirmed his organisation’s long-term commitment to the growth of African football, highlighting the significant financial and developmental support provided through the FIFA Forward Program.
According to Infantino, FIFA has invested more than 1.2 billion U.S. dollars in Africa in recent years, funding projects aimed at improving infrastructure, nurturing young players, and expanding access to the game.
Infantino also pointed to several key initiatives that have benefited African member associations, such as the FIFA Arena, Football for Schools, FIFA Talent Academies, and the FIFA Talent Development Scheme.
These programs, he noted, have been instrumental in creating opportunities for youth development and promoting sustainable growth across the continent.
Additionally, Infantino revealed that African representation within FIFA continues to reach new heights.
“In the newly constituted FIFA Committees, we have 130 Africans, which is an unprecedented number,” he stated, adding that detailed information will be released soon.
Infantino’s message of unity aligns with FIFA’s broader mission to work hand in hand with CAF and its member associations.
The goal, he said, is to create a solid foundation for African football - one that ensures long-term success, stronger governance, and greater recognition for African teams and players on the global stage.
