Christopher Antwi-Adjei lit up the VELTINS-Arena with a lively display and a crucial assist as Schalke 04 opened their Bundesliga 2 campaign with a 2-1 win over Hertha BSC on Friday evening.
The Ghanaian winger, who started and played 77 minutes, thrilled home fans with his pace and precision. His finest moment came in the 23rd minute when he delivered a perfect corner that found Nikola Katic, who rose high to head home Schalke’s second of the night.
Moussa Sylla had opened the scoring earlier in the 16th minute, tucking in Peter Remmert’s low pass to give the Royal Blues a dream start. Schalke, though out-possessed by Hertha, made their chances count.
Hertha BSC pulled one back late through Sebastian Grønning in the 89th minute, adding late drama to the contest. But the hosts held on, even after Katic was sent off in stoppage time for a second yellow.
The result extends Schalke’s strong record against Hertha to 14 wins in 26 meetings. Next up for the Royal Blues is a clash with Kaiserslautern on August 9.
