The Ghana Premier League’s Matchday 26 delivered thrilling encounters across the various venues that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
Here’s a breakdown of each match:
In a closely contested match at the Kpando Sports Stadium, league leaders Kotoko were held to a 1-1 draw by Hearts of Lions. Justice Blay’s first-half strike gave the Porcupine Warriors the lead, but Fawzi Ali’s 67th-minute equalizer denied Kotoko the opportunity to extend their lead at the summit. Despite dropping two points, Kotoko remain top of the league with a slim one-point advantage.
Hearts of Oak secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Medeama SC at the Accra Sports Stadium, thanks to Raphael Amponsah’s first-half strike. The win marked a crucial result for under-pressure coach Aboubakar Ouattara and ended a four-match winless streak for the Phobians. Amponsah’s powerful long-range effort proved to be the match-winner in a tight and physical encounter.
Dreams FC continued their revival with a 2-0 victory over visiting Bibiani Gold Stars. Karim Zito’s team scored twice in a keenly contested first half to bank all three points at the expense of the visitors. Razak Salifu broke the deadlock on 35 minutes, and Izdeen Mohammed netted the second at the death of half-time. Dreams defended both goals after recess to hand Gold Stars their first defeat in four matches.
Basake Holy Stars returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Berekum Chelsea at the Ampain AAK II Sports Arena. After a goalless first half, all three goals arrived in the second period as Holy Stars produced a much-needed response to end a run of three consecutive defeats. The result lifts Holy Stars to 12th on the table, providing some breathing space as they seek to avoid being drawn into the relegation fight.
Rich Sackey’s 10th-minute strike was enough to hand Aduana FC a narrow 1-0 victory over Vision FC at the Nana Agyemang Badu Stadium. The hosts, who have shown inconsistency this season, once again delivered at home with a disciplined performance against a determined Vision side.
Champions FC Samartex cruised to a 2-0 victory over Accra Lions at the Nsenkyire Park to return to winning ways in the Ghana Premier League. First-half goals from Emmanuel Mamah and Akwesi Sarpong were enough for the Timber Boys to secure all three points against last season’s runners-up.
Young Apostles FC and Legon Cities played out a goalless draw in Round 26 of the Ghana Premier League at the Nana Abrefah Nketiah VII Park in Wenchi. The draw keeps them unbeaten at home in their last seven games but slightly dents their push up the table.
The Ghana Premier League’s Matchday 26 will wrap up tomorrow at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Complex, where Nations FC will host Karela United.
