The matchday 25 games of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League witnessed some thrilling results.
Six home victories and two draws unfolded from the eight matches played on Wednesday afternoon across various venues, with no away team emerging victorious.
After a three-game winless streak, Medeama SC revived their title defence hopes with a 2-0 triumph over Hearts of Oak at Akoon Park in Tarkwa. This win propelled them to fifth place on the league table with 36 points.
On the other hand, the Phobians suffered their third consecutive league loss after going eight matches unbeaten. Aboubakar Ouattara’s men have now slipped to 11th position on the log and will face Karela United in their next encounter.
Bibiani Gold Stars added to their impressive victory over Hearts of Oak on week 24 with a 3-2 win against Karela United at Dun’s Park. The Miners are now unbeaten in their last six matches, securing four wins and two draws. This impressive run has elevated them to eighth place on the table.
In a captivating Bono Derby clash at the Sunyani Coronation Park, Bofoakwa Tano pulled off a remarkable upset with a 1-0 triumph over Aduana FC. This win lifts the returnees one step above the drop zone to 15th on the league table, a point better than Dreams FC.
CAF Confederation Cup semifinalists Dreams FC fell to Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park. Despite going down early through a Stephen Amankona penalty, Eric Danso Boateng scored twice to put the Still Believe side ahead.
However, a resilient Samuel Boadu-led team found two goals in the final ten minutes, with Amankona registering his second of the day and Shaibu Yakubu scoring the match-winner. Despite their exploits in Africa and the FA Cup, Dreams FC find themselves in the relegation zone with 28 points from 23 games and two matches remaining.
Mohammed Iddriss’ 51st-minute strike was enough for RTU to return to winning ways as they stunned second-placed Nations FC at the Naa Sheriga Sports Complex. The win keeps RTU at the bottom of the log with 25 points and stretches the gap between leaders Samartex and Nations FC to three points.
Samartex, who hoped for a scalp at Legon Cities, were held to a 1-1 draw courtesy of Emmanuel Boakye Owusu’s 90th-minute finish, cancelling out Fredrick Akatuk’s opener for the Royals. Samartex now hold a three-point lead over second-placed Nations FC and remain unbeaten in their last five matches, with three wins and two draws.
Great Olympics had to rescue a point in the final minute of the game against Bechem United. Bechem remain seventh on the table with 35 points, while the Wonder Club, who have only one win in six games, lie 12th with 32 points.
In Kpando, Heart of Lions returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Accra Lions. It was the first win in five games for Lions coach Bashiru Hayford and the second loss for Ibrahim Tanko’s Lions in the last eight matches. They have four wins and two draws during this period.
On Thursday, Asante Kotoko will welcome Nsoatreman FC to the Baba Yara Stadium as they seek their first win in six games. The match kicks off at 6 pm.
