Ghanaian afrobeats musician, Mr Drew has highlighted a challenge he says is affecting the growth of the music industry.
In an interview on 3Lounge on 3FM, the ‘Dwe’ hitmaker explained that although the music industry is making strides, one challenge is that artistes are not celebrated enough for their various uniqueness or craft.
Mr Drew argued that more efforts should be put in applauding artistes who are good and known for a particular craft.
“I think that is where the issue is. We don’t celebrate the uniqueness of the artistes enough. We usually put all of us in a box together, we don’t celebrate individually. Like okay, this person can do this very well so we love you for that or this person can do this very well so we love you for that.
“So that when the music comes out, I love this person because of his arts or craft but we’re getting there,” he stated.
When questioned about the state of the music industry, he responded: “I think it’s getting better because last year, we were mostly enjoying Ghanaian music. You couldn’t even tell where all the other songs were from different countries.”
“It’s just amapiano that we were hearing a lot aside the Ghanaian music. It’s a step in the right direction, so this year we just have to double the energy,” Mr Drew added.
Known for hit songs such as ‘Dwe’, ‘Mood’, ‘This Year’, ‘Case’ and ‘Sneaky’, Mr Drew is currently out with a new EP titled ‘The Loverboy’.
