The Director of Legal Services of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Edudzi Tameklo, has said that appointees of the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration should thank their stars that President John Mahama is the one at the helm of this country.
According to him, but for President Mahama, former President Akufo-Addo and his team would have been paid back in their own coin.
Mr Tameklo made this statement while contributing to discussions on TV3’s The KeyPoints on February 15.
He was contributing to discussions on the declaration of the former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, wanted by the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
His comments follow concerns expressed by members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over what they called persecution of Mr Ofori-Atta.
“What is exactly is the problem? Is it that Ofori-Atta is above being declared wanted or being investigated,” he queried.
According to him, “Nana Addo caused the Office of the Special Prosecutor to investigate John Mahama, a former President. If this could be done, why not Ofori-Atta?”
Mr Tameklo disclosed that “The Special Prosecutor went to John Mahama and took statements from him.” adding that “We have had a Finance Minister (Kwame Peprah) and Deputy (Sipa Yankey) go to jail in this country.”
He stressed that, “People have gone through hell under Akufo-Addo and his family members. They should be lucky (sic) that they have a forward-looking President like John Mahama as President as of this Republic…that he is a man who appreciates the requirements of due process. If one has committed an offence, so be it. But John Mahama, with his experience and good governance principles, has gone beyond it.”
