Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has clarified the continuous absence of Majority MPs in Parliament, stressing that they are dealing with matters related to their work.
Last Friday, Parliament adjourned the House due to lack of quorum to proceed with government business. This was as a result of the absence of MPs, mostly majority members.
The South Dayi MP in an interview on TV3’s Hot Issues, snubbed the perception that the MPs are indiscipline, stating that most of them are sorting out accommodation matters while others are relocating their offices.
Dafeamekpor noted that about 81 majority MPs are currently resolving accommodation problems.
“The numbers that are not coming have been largely on the majority side. The explanation I got to know is that some have relocated their offices, some too are trying to sort out their accommodation matters.
“As I talk to you, I have about 81 new MPs in Accra, they are trying to settle and when I came to Parliament in January 2017, things were tough and I encountered colleagues who were even raised and lived in Accra but didn’t find it easy…there are logistical difficulties,” he stated.
He is confident that these issues will be finalised by the end of February for Parliament to return to normal.
“I can assure that from the end of this month, things will stabilize, people will have their offices, attendance will be better, residential issues will be resolved,” he assured.
