13-year-old reportedly commits suicide in Koforidua

A basic school pupil suspected to be 13 years old has allegedly committed suicide at Pipeline Zongo, a suburb of Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

Her lifeless body was found by neighbors hanging on a yellow rope tied to the ceiling of her guardian’s kitchen.

It’s unclear what might have led to the suicide. Residents have been in shock since Tuesday evening when the incident occurred.

They narrated that the younger child of the deceased’s guardian found the body hanging in the kitchen and shouted for help. Subsequently, the eyewitness collapsed and was rushed to the Koforidua Central Hospital.

The deceased did not attend school because sports activities was in session. The Police were called in to take the body to the St Joseph Hospital for postmortem.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) who came to the scene explained at the time the incident occurred the guardian of the children was absent.

Investigation has begun into the matter.
