MTN Ghana Foundation trains local oil producer in Juaso

Two Hundred (200) local oil producers in the Asante Akim South District in the Ashanti Region have received in modern ways of processing palm oil by MTN Ghana Foundation.

The aim is to boost palm oil production in the area and reduce stress of making palm oil.

The MTN Ghana Foundation has also set up a modern Oil palm extraction factory in the area to boost local palm oil production in Juaso.

The move is to streamline operations of the extractors, mostly, women in a bid to improve local production of the commodity.

Ghana currently is one of the leading palm oil producing countries – second in Africa and eighth in the world.

The MTN Ghana Foundation took the Juaso palm oil producers to Serendipalm Company Limited at Asuom in the Eastern region to experience modern ways of processing palm oil.

Serendipalm Company Limited produces organic palm oil using modern processing methods of extracting edible oils.

The local oil producers were taken through process such as traditional methods, small-scale mechanical units, medium-scale mills and large industrial mills to sharpen their skills.

The Economic Empowerment Advisor of MTN Ghana Cynthia Mills said MTN Ghana Foundation is making the intervention to streamline operations of palm oil,mostly, women in a bid to improve local production of the commodity.

According to Cynthia Mills, the project will help reduce stress in making palm oil in traditional ways and boost palm oil production at Juaso.

Madam Cynthia Mills disclosed that MTN Ghana has equipped the factory with modern equipment to facilitate the work of beneficiaries into producing standardised products.

“We brought them here to have a look at modern way of processing palm oiland also to learn how the machines are being operated. They have already received some training which will help them do well in modern way of processing palm oil. MTN Ghana has provided equipment in the factory which has been built at Juaso. The Equipment will help them process the palm oil, do the extraction,do the boiling and packaging” she said.

Leaders of Juaso Palm Oil Association speaking to Abusua Fm’s Osei Kwadwo after the tour expressed their joy about the training they received from Serendipalm Company Limited.

The Leaders of the Association recounted the difficulty local palm oil producers have endured over the years.

According to them, the factory built by MTN Ghana at Juaso will make palm oil making easy and boost production at Juaso and Ghana as well.

“We want to thank MTN Ghana for coming to our aid for building Palm Oil factory for us at Juaso. It is hard making palm oil in traditional way.Sometimes when it starts raining we have to close and all our work will be destroyed. The stress and danger involved is too much” they said.
