Law enforcement sources told the outlet that Petty was taken to the UCLA Santa Monica Hospital, and he was reportedly put "on life support."
TMZ has since reported that Petty had "he had no brain activity" when he got to the hospital, and that "a decision was made to pull life support."
The 66-year-old singer, famous for his music with Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, wrapped a long tour at the end of September.
