Residents of Ehin Grammar community in Ibadan, Oyo State have appealed to the state government and security agencies to deploy security personnel to all public secondary schools in the area during school hours.
The residents noted that incessant student’s clashes have lead to the destruction of properties worth millions of naira and affected many families negatively.
The residents made these declarations on Wednesday, during a press conference held at the community hall.
The residents noted that incessant student’s clashes in schools such as Anglican Grammar School, Ibadan Grammar School, St. David’s High School Olubi Memorial Grammar School and St. Luke’s College are worrisome.
General Chairman of the Ehin Grammar Landlords, Mukaila Ajibike, while addressing journalists, insisted that frequent clashes among students of secondary schools in the area have lead to violence.
Ajibike, who spoke on behalf of other landlords and landladies in the area, implored the state government and security agencies to deploy security personnel to the schools in the area, especially during school hours.
He also called on the state government to immediately repair the roads in the community.
He said “Rising incidents of student brigandage in recent months, our peace and safety have been threatened by incessant violent clashes among students of some secondary schools in our area, notably Ibadan Grammar School, St David’s High School, Anglican Grammar School, and others within Molete and its environs.
“These inter-school fights often spill into our streets, causing fear, disruption to businesses, and insecurity for residents. We, therefore, call on the Oyo State Government to urgently deploy security personnel to the affected areas.
“We are therefore appealing directly to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, and the Chairman of Ibadan South-East Local Government, Mr. Emmanuel Alawode, to take immediate steps to address these challenges deploying security to curb student unrest, repairing school fences, and rehabilitating our road.”
