Four men have appeared before the Circuit Court presided over by His Honour Jojo Amoah Hagan for allegedly causing unlawful damage to private property at Abokobi-Boi in the Greater Accra Region.
The accused persons, identified as Richard Eli Damashie (A1), Abdul Farouk (A2), Hopeson Kwaku Bossman (A3), and Prince Commey (A4), have been charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and unlawful damage to property.
However, the court has yet to take their pleas, as the prosecution has indicated that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
The court granted bail to Hopeson Kwaku Bossman on health grounds last week, setting the bail amount at GH¢50,000 with two sureties. Meanwhile, the other three accused persons have been remanded into custody. The case has been adjourned to April 10, 2025.
Background of the Case
According to the prosecution, the complainant, Charles Korsah, a businessman residing in Ashongman Estate, and his three associates acquired six plots of land at Abokobi-Boi from the Odai Ntow family in 2015 for development purposes.
In 2024, Korsah built a four-bedroom uncompleted storey building, while Stephen Yeboah also constructed a four-bedroom uncompleted house with a fence wall on his portion of the land. Over the years, Korsah and Yeboah have reportedly faced continuous harassment and demolition attempts on their land.
The situation escalated when their caretaker, Dawuda Karim, was allegedly shot by unidentified persons. Following this incident, Korsah petitioned the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), prompting an investigation.
On the night of March 25, 2025, between 9:30 p.m. and midnight, the accused, along with other unidentified individuals, reportedly arrived at the site armed with pickaxes and maul hammers, causing damage to the complainants’ buildings.
The complainant, upon being alerted, mobilized workmen in the vicinity, who confronted the accused.
The Ayimensah Police were called to the scene and subsequently arrested the four accused individuals while others managed to escape.
During police interrogation, the accused claimed they were transported from Nsawam to the site in a white pickup truck by an unknown individual who allegedly hired them to demolish the buildings for a fee.
The case remains under investigation, with authorities pursuing the unidentified suspects who fled the scene. The prosecution is expected to present further evidence in the next hearing on April 10, 2025.
