Former Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Dubik Mahama, has stated unequivocally that he has not left the country and is fully prepared to assist in investigations regarding the missing ECG containers.
Addressing concerns during an interview on TV3’s Ghana Tonight programme on Wednesday, April 02, Dubik Mahama stressed that the missing containers contain essential materials crucial for expanding and improving ECG’s electricity distribution network. He emphasized his commitment to aiding efforts to locate the containers.
“I haven’t left this country. I am here. I want to assist because those containers contain critical materials that we need to intensify the network of ECG and also expand the work that ECG is doing,” he said.
Dubik Mahama also refuted suggestions that ECG alone should bear responsibility for the missing goods, pointing out that multiple state agencies, including the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) and Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), were involved in the process.
“For me, to say this issue is solely an indictment on ECG is wrong. There are three state institutions involved here. Let’s not drop the ball at one doorstep and say, ‘Okay, this is where it sits, and that’s the end of it,’” he argued.
When asked if he would make himself available for forensic investigations, he responded firmly:
“Of course! Let’s make one thing clear—I never schooled abroad. I am homegrown. I believe in this country. I came to work in this country, and my success at ECG is clear for everybody to see. I have no intentions of fleeing from the conversation that needs to be had.”
Dubik Mahama, however, criticized the technical committee investigating the issue, stating that he was never given a chance to be heard.
“I will not, through the media, give information to a committee that never gave me the right to be heard. I wasn’t given the opportunity. When given the opportunity, I will address it accordingly because there are so many inconsistencies.”
He called on all stakeholders, including the Energy Minister, to work together to trace the missing containers.
“We all need to help the Minister to locate every single container, and that’s going to be my mantra,” he declared.
His comments come amidst growing controversy over reports that 1,346 ECG containers could not be accounted for, sparking demands for accountability and transparency in the investigation.
