Nana Yim Awere Ababio, the Chief of Toase in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality, has been elected as the Presiding Member for the Assembly at the fifth inaugural and elections of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly members (MMDAs) on Monday.
The Toasehene, a government appointee to the Assembly, doubles as Director of Finance at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
Mr John Nyamekye, Assembly Member for Amanchia Electoral Area, who has spent over 20 years at the Assembly and intended to contest the Presiding Member position, stepped down at the eleventh hour.
Nana Toasehene contested unopposed and secured all the 32 Yes votes by the Assembly Members present.
The colourful occasion was witnessed by dignitaries including; Mahama Asei – Deputy Minister for Health and MP for Daboya Constituency in the Savanna Region, who represented President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Mr. Emmanuel Agyei Anhwere, Member of Parliament for Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency, Nana Adusei Sarkodie, former Member of Parliament for Atwima Nwabiagya Constituency (1996-2004), Anthony Osei Boakye, former Member of Parliament Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency (2012-2016) and Nana Asare Bediako, former DCE Atwima Nwabiagya District Assembly (2009-2017), Nananom and Heads of Departments among others.
Nana Yim Awere II thanked the government for his appointment and commended the Assembly members for their support and called for unity and peace to harness development.
Mr. Michael Amoah Awuku, the Municipal Chief Executive called for teamwork, commitment and selfless services to enhance the total developmental projects agenda in their respective electoral areas.
