Black Stars head coach Otto Addo says Ghana must effectively contain Heung-min Son if they are to secure a positive result against South Korea on Tuesday.
The match is the second fixture of the team’s Asian tour, which began with a 2-0 defeat to Japan in the Kirin Challenge Cup.
Ghana are targeting a stronger performance after struggling in Nagoya and now face a Korean side led by one of Asia’s most influential forwards.
Addo emphasised Son’s importance and warned that the Black Stars must be disciplined to limit his impact.
He praised the Los Angeles FC attacker’s growth while outlining the danger he continues to pose.
“I'm happy for his career. It's going to be difficult to totally eliminate him because he has so many good skills. He's good on the ball. He shoots left and right,” Addo said.
“We have to prevent and stop his shots, which are very, very crucial. He has good runs.”
“We have to take good decisions, especially in our defence, when to attack him, but maybe also when to drop in case there's space and he can run into the space,” he explained.
He believes experience may work in Ghana’s favour. “I know that they can do it. We are a little bit lucky that now he's not 24 or 25 anymore. He's also getting older, so I think we have a good chance to stop him.”
The Black Stars face South Korea on November 18, with kickoff at 11:00 am.
