
The University of Professional Studies made history on Friday afternoon in Dalian, China, after becoming the first African team to reach the final of the World Universities Cup following victory over University of Granada.
The African champions defeated the Spanish institution on penalties 5-4 after grueling contest in the semi-final.
UDS, still unbeaten in the competition, dominated the game but could not find the breakthrough following a solid defensive performance from their opponents.
Although, University of Granada had their own chances, UDS were up to the task as they held their grounds to ensure they did not concede.
The game had to be settled from the spot with UDS goalkeeper Emmanuel Edo becoming the hero of the game.
The Ghanaians will now face the winner of the game between the University of Paulista, Brazil and University Chouaib Doukkali (Morocco) in the final.
The University of Professional Studies are enjoying a remarkable run at the tournament after topping Group C before beating University of Kyungil and University of Granada at the knockout stages.
