Nico Williams continues to be the name on everyone’s lips in Bilbao as his recovery nears its final stage.
The Spanish-Ghanaian winger has been out since September 8 when he left Spain’s game against Turkey after 43 minutes with discomfort in his adductor muscle. Since that day, Athletic Club have failed to win in four outings, falling to three defeats and one draw across LaLiga and the Champions League. Supporters feel his absence deeply, as the team has lost momentum after a bright start to the season.
The club initially gave no clear timeline, stating only that he was “pending progress.” Medical reports suggested two to three weeks, leaving fans hoping he would return before the international break.
Coach Ernesto Valverde offered a glimpse of optimism earlier this week. “He’s doing better” and “we’ll see how he is in the coming days,” he explained.
While Valverde is cautious, there is belief that Williams might be fit for the Borussia Dortmund clash on October 1 or possibly against Mallorca soon after.
