Eintracht Frankfurt delivered a powerful performance in front of their fans, sweeping aside Galatasaray 5-1 in the Champions League.
German-Ghanaian forward Ansgar Knauff capped the night with a composed strike, showing sharp instincts when it mattered most.
The visitors struck first through Yunus Akgün, who finished coolly after a neat pass from Leroy Sané. But Galatasaray’s early joy soon faded as sloppy mistakes undid their promising start. Davinson Sánchez turned a chipped effort into his own net to bring Frankfurt level, before Turkey international Can Uzun curled home a stunning finish. On the stroke of half-time, Wilfried Singo headed another own goal to give the hosts a 3-1 cushion.
Frankfurt tightened their grip after the break. Jonathan Burkardt’s header, helped in by Sánchez, made it four. Then in the 75th minute, substitute Elye Wahi pounced on a poor touch, releasing Knauff, who rounded goalkeeper Cakir to slot into an empty net.
Knauff may have had the fewest touches on the pitch, but his goal was the perfect reward on a dominant night for Frankfurt.
