Ghana winger Kamaldeen Sulemana was an unused substitute as Atalanta suffered a demoralising 4-0 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in their UEFA Champions League group stage opener at the Parc des Princes.
The highly anticipated match turned into a one-sided affair as the French champions dominated from start to finish. Marquinhos opened the scoring in just the 3rd minute before Khvicha Kvaratskhelia doubled the advantage in the 39th minute.
Despite having a chance to extend their lead before halftime, Bradley Barcola missed a penalty after Yunus Musah's foul.
The second half continued in similar fashion with Nuno Mendes adding a third goal in the 51st minute before substitute Gonçalo Ramos completed the rout in stoppage time with a fourth goal.
Sulemana, who joined Atalanta from Southampton during the summer transfer window, watched from the bench as manager Ivan Juric opted for other options despite the team's struggles in attack. The Ghana international had featured in all three of Atalanta's Serie A matches prior to this Champions League encounter.
The heavy defeat marks a challenging start to Atalanta's European campaign, with the Italian side now needing to regroup quickly before their next group stage match.
For Sulemana, the absence of playing time in such a high-profile match will be disappointing as he seeks to establish himself at his new club following his â¬20 million move.
Atalanta will look to bounce back when they face Torino in Serie A at the weekend, while their next Champions League assignment will be against Club Brugge in early October.
