Winfred Amoah played a key role in SKN St. Pölten’s 3-1 home win over SV Stripfing in the Austrian 2. Liga on Friday.
The Austrian-Ghanaian attacker started the match at the NV Arena and thrilled fans with an assist and a lively display before being replaced in the 86th minute.
The game started perfectly for the hosts when Amoah’s clever cross found David Riegler, who headed the ball down for Marco Hausjell to slot in after just two minutes. St. Pölten continued to press, and their momentum paid off again. A sharp pass from Dirk Carlson released Amoah, only for him to be brought down in the box. Marc Stendera calmly converted the penalty in the 37th minute.
Just before halftime, Reinhard Young marked his debut in style. He pounced on a rebound created by Amoah’s persistence and fired home to make it 3-0.
Stripfing pulled one back late through a penalty from Luka Poldrugac, but the hosts stayed in control. With 62% possession and more shots on target, St. Pölten looked assured.
Next up, they face SV Austria Salzburg on September 20.
