Bechem United head coach Stephen Desmond-Issah Botchway says his side will approach Saturday’s Ghana Premier League clash with champions Bibiani GoldStars like any other fixture despite the heightened attention around it.
The two teams meet at Dun’s Park in Bibiani on September 13 at 15:00 GMT in what is widely seen as the marquee opening-day game of the 2025/26 season.
GoldStars begin the defence of their maiden league title following a remarkable 2024/25 campaign, while Bechem United start under new management after finishing 10th last term.
Botchway insisted his squad has prepared thoroughly for the task ahead.
“We have done a lot and I believe in my boys, I know what they can do, they are going to perform,” the coach told the club’s media team.
“I’ve played this game and I am now a coach, I’ve gone through so many things and this [game against Gold Stars] is not new to me so I see it as a normal game and we are going to perform.”
Bechem United have strengthened their squad with several signings including former Ghana and Manchester City youth forward Mohammed Aminu.
The Hunters will be hoping to upset the champions on their own turf and set the tone for a more consistent campaign under Botchway.
