Sports Minister Kofi Adams has revealed that Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has acknowledged making mistakes during Ghana's failed Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign, even as the team leads their World Cup qualifying group.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show, Adams expressed serious concerns about the team's inconsistent performances despite their top position in Group I with 19 points.
The Minister highlighted that recent results - including a crucial 1-0 win over Mali that followed a disappointing 1-1 draw against Chad - demonstrate ongoing tactical issues that need addressing.
"Even when you meet the coach himself, he admits that he got things wrong and takes responsibility," Adams stated. "But the question is: for how long will you continue to take blame for wrong decisions?"
Adams emphasised that Ghana's failure to qualify for the upcoming AFCON in Morocco remains a fresh wound, noting "We will watch on TV" when the tournament begins.
While acknowledging the team's strong position in World Cup qualifying, the Minister stressed that qualification is not yet secured, with Ghana needing four points from their final two matches against Central African Republic and Comoros.
"If I tell you I am impressed, then it means I do not know my job. I am not," Adams said bluntly. "There is a lot of room for improvement."
The Minister's comments come at a crucial time for the Black Stars, who must convert their group leadership into actual World Cup qualification in October while addressing the tactical deficiencies that cost them a place at AFCON 2025.
