Hearts of Oak will travel to Germany to face an as-yet unnamed side after lifting the 2025 Democracy Cup, the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, has confirmed.
The Phobians earned the right to represent Ghana abroad after edging Great Olympics 1-0 at the University of Ghana Stadium on Friday.
Substitute Kwesi Asmah struck the only goal of the final in the 70th minute to hand Hearts their first Democracy Cup title, following last year’s defeat to Asante Kotoko in the inaugural edition.
Speaking after the match, Mr. Djietror disclosed that the tournament’s tradition of offering winners an international friendly would continue this year.
“Definitely Germany. We’ve not ruled out the U.S. Because last year we had the winning team playing D.C. United in Washington, D.C. This year, that opportunity still avails us. But we want to have an experience in Europe,” he said.

Hearts’ victory mirrors the precedent set in 2024, when Kotoko’s triumph earned them a showcase match against MLS side D.C. United.
Organisers believe the European experience will further raise the profile of the competition and Ghanaian club football.
Before the main fixture, Parliament’s football team defeated the Judiciary 3-2 on penalties in a curtain-raiser after their game ended 1-1, adding an extra layer of excitement to a day celebrating sport, democracy and unity.
