Real Oviedo midfielder Kwasi Sibo has won the hearts of Ghanaian fans with a strong and composed performance on his international debut for the Black Stars.
The 27-year-old, who received a late call-up to the national team, was immediately thrust into the starting lineup for Ghana’s crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier against Mali on Monday night.
Sibo’s presence in midfield provided stability and physicality as Ghana secured a narrow 1â0 victory, thanks to a second-half goal from Alexander Djiku. Despite the high-pressure occasion, the midfielder looked at home in the Black Stars setup, contributing both defensively and in building possession.
After the match, an appreciative Sibo took time to acknowledge the support from fans, saying: “I thank Ghanaians for the massive support on my debut. I do appreciate. It’s time to go and do club work. I will be back soon.”
His performance has sparked optimism among supporters about the depth of talent available to head coach Otto Addo as Ghana closes in on World Cup qualification.
The Black Stars now sit atop Group I with 19 points and need just one win from their remaining two matchesâagainst Central African Republic and Comoros in Octoberâto secure their place in the 2026 tournament.
