The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has charged the Black Stars to aim at playing in the final of the 2026 World Cup should they qualify.
Ghana strengthened their chances of qualifying for the Mundial next year following a hard-fought 1-0 win over Mali on Monday night at the Accra Sports Stadium after a frustrating 1-1 draw against Chad last week.
The win mean the four-time African champions now extend their lead in Group I to 19 points with Otto Addo and his charges needing a win to seal their fifth global showpiece qualification.
After playing in the quarterfinals in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Kofi Adams beleives the Black Stars must focus on playing in the final for the first time should they secure qualification.
"The Black Stars must aim at playing in the final of the 2026 World Cup if the team qualify," the Member of Parliament for Buem constituency told Woezor TV.
"We must aim to better the performance we achieved in South Africa. The President [John Mahama] has brought some goodwill to the country, and I strongly believe that we have the best players to make that history," he added.
The Black Stars will next face the Central African Republic away, before concluding their qualifying campaign with a home match against Comoros in October.
