Black Stars head coach Otto Addo expressed satisfaction with his team’s hard-fought 1â0 victory over Mali in a crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier but admitted concern over his side’s inability to convert late chances to kill off the game.
An improvised 49th-minute finish from defender Alexander Djiku proved the difference in a tense encounter at a packed Accra Sports Stadium.
Despite the win, Addo highlighted missed counter-attacking opportunities that could have secured a more comfortable margin.
“We had some chances to finish the game, counters where we maybe could have scored the second goal but we couldn’t take use of these situations,” Addo stated in his post-match comments.
Nevertheless, the coach commended his team’s resilience, particularly the defensive unit: “We really fought well⦠thanks to the defence, they really gave their all and defended well.” The result keeps Ghana atop Group I with 19 points, maintaining a three-point cushion over Madagascar.
With 19 points, te four-time African champions sit atop of Group I and will need four points in their last two games to be sure of qualification.
