Strasbourg fell 3-2 to Monaco in a thrilling Ligue 1 clash at the Stade Louis-II, but English-Ghanaian youngster Samuel Amo-Ameyaw left his mark with a lively cameo.
Monaco took early control when Maghnes Akliouche struck in the 6th minute. Folarin Balogun doubled the lead soon after halftime, leaving Strasbourg chasing.
Coach Patrick Vieira turned to his bench, introducing Amo-Ameyaw in the 71st minute. Just two minutes later, the 19-year-old midfielder made an instant impact, swinging in a clever cross for Dilane Bakwa, who rifled home to give Strasbourg hope. Moments later, JoaquÃn Panichelli held his nerve from the spot to level the game at 2-2, sending the away fans into raptures.
But Monaco had the last word. In stoppage time, Takumi Minamino nodded in Akliouche’s delivery to restore the lead. Tensions boiled over when Strasbourg’s Rabby Nzingoula was sent off in the dying minutes, sealing a dramatic finish.
Despite the defeat, Amo-Ameyaw’s bright display gave Strasbourg fans something to cheer. They next face Le Havre on September 13.
