Sports Minister Kofi Adams says members of the Black Stars’ technical team will only receive half of the winning bonuses awarded to players, with the balance payable if the team qualifies for a major tournament.
He explained that the arrangement is designed to both motivate performance and ensure accountability in the use of public funds.
“The Black Stars technical team members are paid half of the winning bonuses given to players,” Mr. Adams told journalists in Accra on Tuesday. “If the team qualifies for a major tournament, the remaining 50 percent will be paid. If they fail, they forfeit the money.”
The Minister made the remarks while briefing the media on expenditure related to Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
Black Stars are currently in N’Djamena to face Chad at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno on September 4.
They will then return to host Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 8, with both matches seen as crucial to their hopes of reaching the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Ghana currently leads Group I with 15 points from six matches, keeping the team well-placed for a fifth FIFA World Cup appearance.
