The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has trimmed the Ghana Football Association’s proposed budget for the Black Stars’ 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Chad, cutting it from an estimated $1,239,090 to $841,290.
A breakdown released on Tuesday shows that while some key allocations were maintained, several bonuses and allowances for technical staff and officials were either reduced or scrapped altogether.
The cost of the charter flight to N’Djamena, pegged at $300,000, was fully approved, along with player and official per diems of $150 and $200, respectively, as well as accommodation expenses of $250 per person. Meals for players and officials in Chad were also maintained at $80.
However, the Ministry slashed incidental expenses from $60,000 to $20,000. Players’ bonuses were cut in half from $10,000 to $5,000, while assistant coaches’ bonuses were also reduced to $5,000. The head coach’s bonus was kept at $10,000.
Bonuses for team officials were cancelled entirely, while support staff, including the team doctor, physiotherapist, psychologist, and video analyst, saw their allocation reduced from $10,000 to $4,000. Similarly, kits officers, media officers, masseurs, welfare officers, and dieticians will now share $4,000 instead of the initially proposed $8,000.
The Black Stars are scheduled to play Chad in N’Djamena on September 4 before hosting Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 8 in Match Days 7 and 8 of the World Cup qualifiers. Both fixtures are seen as crucial to Ghana’s hopes of reaching the tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
