Joel Agyekum is close to taking an important step in his young career, with reports suggesting he could spend next season on loan at Viktoria Köln.
The Hamburg-born defender has found his chances limited at HSV after the club strengthened its defense with new signings. A season in the 3. Liga could give the 20-year-old valuable minutes and room to grow.
Agyekum’s story at HSV began when he joined the club at the age of 11. He rose steadily through the youth system before earning a place in the reserve side for the 2024/25 season. His impact was immediate as he became a regular starter. In November 2024, he played his first test match with the senior team under then-coach Steffen Baumgart.
After Baumgart’s departure, new coach Merlin Polzin included Agyekum in winter training. His progress continued when he was named on the bench for a 2. Bundesliga match in February 2025. He came on late in a 2-1 win against PreuÃen Münster, marking his competitive debut.
