German-born Ghanaian defender King Manu has sealed a loan move to FC Energie Cottbus from Fortuna Dusseldorf, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.
The 21-year-old central defender will represent the third-tier side until the end of the season, donning the number 2 jersey as he looks to gain more first-team experience.
Energie head coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz expressed delight at the acquisition, highlighting Manu’s attributes and leadership qualities despite his young age.
“We had King Manu on our list last summer as well because he is an extremely interesting player whose style of play fits exactly with what we have in mind.
"In addition to his physique, King also brings a lot of what is sought after in modern football and, despite his young age, has already shown leadership qualities,” Wollitz said.
Squad planner Maniyel Nergiz also acknowledged Fortuna for their cooperation in making the deal possible.
Born in Cologne to Ghanaian parents, Manu began his development at Borussia Monchengladbach’s academy before spells with SG Unterrath, Ratingen, and MSV Dusseldorf.
He later earned his breakthrough at Fortuna, where he has made five Bundesliga two appearances.
Standing at 1.95m, the towering centre-back spent last season on loan at Hansa Rostock in the 3. Liga, making 16 appearances.
His latest move to Energie Cottbus is expected to accelerate his progress and provide regular game time.
Manu remains eligible to represent both Germany and Ghana at international level.
