Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito says his team will approach the Champion of Champions clash against Bibiani GoldStars with revenge on their minds, following their 2-1 defeat in the GHALCA Top 4 tournament weeks ago.
The Porcupine Warriors will travel to Duns Park on Sunday, August 31, for the official curtain-raiser to the 2025/26 season, where Premier League champions GoldStars and FA Cup winners Kotoko will battle for early bragging rights.
With both sides preparing for continental football, the encounter has gained added significance.
“It will be a very difficult match. As you know, they also beat us during the Top Four. So, it will be a revenge. Revenge not on physical issues, revenge on the people that we also like to reward,” Zito told reporters.
“I’m very, very happy with this game because it will be in preparation for the Confederation Cup. And they also, the CAF Champions League, are going to play. So, it will be a nice game.”
GoldStars, led by coach Frimpong Manso, stunned Ghanaian football last season by winning their maiden league title and are eager to consolidate their status as a rising powerhouse.
Kotoko, meanwhile, remain determined to restore dominance and build momentum for their CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
Kick-off at Duns Park is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. GMT, with a capacity crowd expected.
