Brighton and Hove Albion defender Tariq Lamptey is reportedly set for a return to the Black Stars squad as Ghana prepare for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mali and Chad.
Lamptey, who switched international allegiance from England to Ghana in 2022, has struggled with injuries in recent years but is now back to full fitness and enjoying a solid run of form in the English Premier League.
The 23-year-old right-back has been a consistent performer for Brighton, impressing with his pace, energy, and ability to contribute both defensively and offensively.
He last featured for the Black Stars in October 2024 during the 2-0 defeat to Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Since then, Lamptey has been absent due to a series of fitness setbacks, but his recovery and recent displays have reportedly caught the eye of Ghana coach Otto Addo.
Ghana face a tough challenge in Group I of the World Cup qualifiers, with Mali currently posing the biggest threat to their hopes of finishing top.
The potential inclusion of Lamptey is expected to bolster the team’s defensive options and add depth ahead of the double-header.
The Black Stars will play Chad in Ndjamena before hosting Mali in Accra, with victories in both games crucial to securing them a ticket to the World Cup.
