Leicester City manager Marti Cifuentes has expressed delight at the return of Ghanaian winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, whose dazzling strike secured a 1-0 victory over Charlton Athletic in the English Championship.
The 21-year-old’s stunning effort in the second half â cutting inside from the right before bending the ball into the far corner â sealed all three points for the Foxes at the King Power Stadium.
It was a reminder of the immense quality Issahaku brings to the squad when fully fit.
Cifuentes, speaking after the match, emphasized that beyond the goal, the biggest joy was watching the Black Stars attacker enjoy football again following a difficult spell on the sidelines.
“It is a fantastic goal but I am very pleased first of all obviously happy to see Abdul laughing and smiling and enjoying again,” he said.
“This is good news for him and for the team. The goal he gave us is extra quality, it’s a fantastic strike.”
Issahaku has endured a frustrating 2024/25 campaign after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury while on international duty with Ghana.
The setback kept him out for several months, limiting his influence during a crucial stage of Leicester’s campaign.
His return, however, has injected renewed optimism into Cifuentes’s side, with the young winger’s creativity and directness offering an attacking spark that had been missing.
